Description
“Song for My Father” was recorded and released by the House Big Band on its album “Getting Housed”. This was the first jazz standard I learned in high school. I originally wrote this arrangement for the Scott Gwinell Orchestra’s tribute to Horace Silver. Alto sax and trumpet get the features. My goal was to write and arrangement without ever putting the melody on display. You will finally get it at the climax of the extended full band build near the end of the chart. Enjoy!
