Karen Newman’s Holiday tour kicks off this week.

I am always amazed by the wealth of talent around the world.  This was made clear again this past week as I traveled to San Luis Potosi, Mexico to play with their fine orchestra.    I joined the Sax 4th Avenue Saxophone Quartet (headed up by my friend Shannon Ford) and guest conductor Lloyd Butler in a fabulous piece “New Moon” by Tonu Korvitz.   Also featured on the work was a local mezzo-soprano Beatrice (last name???).  She was fabulous!  Great pitch, phrasing, and personality.

It was an American saxophone quartet joining a Mexican orchestra playing a piece by an Estonian composer using Celtic themes led by a British born conductor.  A worldly event indeed!

Liquid Street returns to Ann Arbor on 11/2 for two sets at the Canterbury House.

This coming Monday 9/24 7p-11p, My Trio will be opening a new series at Wurst in Ypsilanti.  (http://wurstbarypsi.com/).    The chefs there have created a full nights menu based on our 1970′s jazz inspired set.    This will be a great night of food and music.  No cover, all ages, and their normal menu will also be available.  Come check it out!
