Had a great time in Mexico

October 30th, 2012

I am always amazed by the wealth of talent around the world.  This was made clear again this past week as I traveled to San Luis Potosi, Mexico to play with their fine orchestra.    I joined the Sax 4th Avenue Saxophone Quartet (headed up by my friend Shannon Ford) and guest conductor Lloyd Butler in a fabulous piece “New Moon” by Tonu Korvitz.   Also featured on the work was a local mezzo-soprano Beatrice (last name???).  She was fabulous!  Great pitch, phrasing, and personality.

It was an American saxophone quartet joining a Mexican orchestra playing a piece by an Estonian composer using Celtic themes led by a British born conductor.  A worldly event indeed!

Michigan Jazz Festival Performance with Walter White’s SM@L

July 17th, 2012

The Michigan Jazz Festival was this past Sunday night 7/15.   Lots of great musicians hanging out in one place – never a bad thing.  At 6pm, I performed with Walter White’s Small Medium @ LARGE.  The band was on fire!  This was also the premier of a new version of my arrangement of Wayne Shorter’s “Beauty and the Beast” that I made for the group.  Definitely looking forward to many more performances with this ensemble.  Good times!
